Child Development Homes
Child Development Homes provide a warm, family setting in which children 6 weeks to 12 years old participate in developmentally appropriate learning activities. The children are able to build a trusting relationship with a provider who fosters their curiosity and creativity, provides guidance and gives them the hugs they need. Some providers offer drop-in (hourly) care on weekends and evenings. The program is available to children of active duty service members, active reservists as well as Department of Defense employees and contractors.
Providers do not need to be affiliated with the Department of Defense (anyone is eligible to become a provider) however providers must serve DoD children. Providers are trained to provide the same high standards of care in their homes as in the Child Development Center. Homes, located on base and in the local community, are monitored and inspected monthly to ensure they meet the Navy’s child care standards. Child Development Homes hold Department of Defense certification and participate in the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Child and Adult Care Food Program (breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack).
